Wheel Adapters Question

Has anyone used these? I want to convert dodges 4.5-6 lug pattern to chevys 5.5-6 lug pattern are they safe and etc.. any feedback would be great! I got some rims and tires that dont fit my dodge dakota but if I get these adapters they will fit

Here is what wheel adapters do. First off if you don't use the proper rim to put the center of gravity back where it belongs you will be putting undue stress on the wheel bearings. Wheel bearing cost lots of money to replace. Wheel adpters usually stick the wheels out past the wheel wells and that throws rocks on your paint and my windshield. They will also probably cause a tire rub somewhere sometime. Maybe turning left with a hard bump, maybe right but usually they cause trouble. Besides putting more stress on the lug bolts. But if you have the proper offset rims to counter all of this then there should be no problem, but if you have to purchase different rims why not just get the right ones to start with?

Years ago I used a set to use Chevy wheels on an old VW Bug and they worked well. The adapters will make the wheels stick out more so you may have some clearance issues.

I haven't personally used them but my buddy had a set on his 93 pickup. He never had any problem with them that I know of but they will change the track of your pickup by setting the wheels out slightly. As long as they are a decent quality spacer and you maintain the proper torque values I don't see any reason they would be a problem. I would however avoid loading the pickup anywhere near the rated capacity without checking what limits the manufacturer has set forth for their use.

mnfishinguy...the wheels came with the package deal when I bought a used 2000 dakota the wheels/tires are worth over $1400 since my tires are bald now on the factory wheels im going to put these on because they have new tires on them I just wanted to know and pros or cons on wheel adapters they are only going to stick out an extra inch

One more thing to remember is that Minnesota state law states that the tire connot extend beyond the fender. Now we all see it everyday and the chances of getting stopped for it are slim but it is another reason to get pulled over.

Your tire tread is allowed to extend beyond the fender, but you're not allowed to have more than 1 tread block beyond the fender lip. IOW, only the shoulder tread can extend out. Nobody will ever obther you on that though unless your new tread is sticking WAY out.
