Is it Legal?

I saw something I was very disgusted with today. I was fishing along the Zumbro River today for some eyes. On my way back up to the truck, I saw a trapping bucket with pieces of chopped up carp inside as bait. I know carp are considered rough fish and all but the first thought that came to my mind was this can't be legal to kill fish to use them as bait for trapping. Can anybody confirm my thoughts or am I wrong?

As far as I know it is legal as long as they aren't using game fish. Since Carp are rough fish I think they are legal to use.

If you mean trapping for like fox im almost sure thats legal but i've been wrong before

I guess I am having a hard time understanding what could be wrong with cutting up a carp for trapping purposes.

Bullheads have long been a favorite bait for many trappers. Any meat used for trapping requires the killing of the animal whether it is something you catch, or something that comes in a can or from a meat counter. The PETA people might disagree with me but I ask; "What ethical or legal code could one be breaking by using carp as trapping bait?

I know for a fact that it is legal as i have used them in traps before. I also use cut-up sucker in the spring for trapping leeches.

We also use suckers in the spring. Can't wait for them to start running!
