9 and 19 degree transducers vs. 12 degree

I know I have seen information about using the vex dual transducer in the past couple of years, but I cannot find the past tread. So... can anyone give me information on when to use each transducer and any problems they might have had. I have a fl 18, which setup would you go with: the dual or the 12?

Thanks,

Ken

Their are multiple reasons to want a dual transducer. One that is in most sales brochures is when fishing at depths below 45-60ft. The 12 and 19 deg transducer will cover huge areas at those deep depths. This is nice when searching for fish but not ideal for fishing. The 8deg from Marcum and the 9deg from vex will cover a smaller area and give you much better view of what is happening below you.

Most people would say they don't fish for Lake Trout or foe eyes in those depths "so I don't need the dual transducer".

What I find is that most people use the dual for finding fish, then fishing with the smaller cone angle. This I find useful in a house with numerous lures in the water. You can use the 8 or 9 degree and see your lure only. The other time it is useful in shallower water is an uneven bottom. There has been numerous threads and pics of the view with an uneven bottom. Many times you may find your lure shows to be on bottom when it is not. This is because the cone is touching on one side and not the other. Many times you can change to the narrower cone and elimnate the issue.

These are my reasons for using a dual cone. I personally bought the LX-5 so I can change it on the power head, not at the transducer.

just my $.02
