Computer Fans in Ice House

I have seen two ways of using these with pretty much the same concept.

First:

What I have seen before is when building or remodeling a shack:

You create a form of ductwork with in the wall that route from the top to bottom. Most of the time this is done in line with a hole. If you use a limited amount of fans the corner holes are what should be outfitted with this system. The “Ductwork” can be very simple as little less insulation to create roughly 2-3 square inches of area as your flow path. It can be done many different ways. You make this run from the very top of the wall down to about 1 to 1-1/2 feet from the floor. At the top you leave as large of opening as the area to mount the fan flush right on the wall (Obviously blowing down). Then on the bottom you have an opening where you have a louvered vent blowing down. This makes a world of difference it is so comfortable it is like a regular house you live in no drafts, very little difference of temperature change when you stand up from sitting down. I have seen people use automotive type vents so they can direct the flow where they want it.

Second:

Is the “Darn I wish I would have known this before I built or bought my shack”:

Basically as I said it is the same concept with all the ductwork done externally of the wall. Still on the inside of the house but using some other means of routing the air downward. I have seen and heard anything from PVC Pipe, Dryer Vent Pipe, Low Profile Wood Constructed & Many More. I think the “Low Profile Wood method” or any wide & thin method of getting the warm air to the bottom is the best.

I have no proof or documentation to back this up but I believe whatever power you use on the 12 VDC side is saved on the LP side of heating your house.

As far as where to purchase these, well I would buy mine as said on a previous post at Northern Tool but make sure you get the 12 Volt versions. Also you want to make sure and have a switch on each fan. The computer fan version is a nice idea but they are small and are meant to cool a computer not to redirect air in a fish house. Don’t get me wrong the computer I believe they work great but I am just saying there is a difference.
