First Catfishing Trip

Last weekend a few friends of mine went on our first catfishing trip. We went up to the st. louis river north of cloquet. We decided to camp at the honey hole, our favorite smallmouth/walleye spot. First we paddled down to the spot and set up camp at about 4 pm. we started catching suckers on crawlers right away. We saved the suckers and let them cure on shore for a while. I was the first one to throw out a peice of sucker, and caught a 30" northern on it rather quickley. Then I put another peice on and caught a catfish instantly. This was at about 8:30. After that It was one after another untill about 2:00 am when we went to bed. We caught about 40 fish averageing between 3-5lbs with the biggist being around 7-8lbs. The fish were holding in swift current about 2-3 ft deep. Needless to say this was the best fishing trip of the summer so far and I am now a catfisherman. My buddies want to go back this weekend but my wife won't let me.
