pontoon trailer type

fish-n-geek

Question

Thinking about replacing the homemade pontoon trailer with a new (or new"er") commercial trailer. I don't see myself hauling this boat farther than an hour or two one-way. Are tandem axle scissor style trailers fairly stable? I'm questioning an under-pontoon trailer, thinking they might not work as well at some of the shallow landings I use.

Cost is also a consideration. I can get a new tandem scissor trailer for $1250. I'm having a hard time finding *anything* used, so I don't know what they would cost. Same dealer said the float-on that they sell runs about twice the cost of the scissor.

Takes?

Thanks!

The best trailer with the most support would be the bunk trailer. Especially if you move it a lot. If you can find 1 1/2 fow you can launch off of a bunk trailer. The scissors style are more for the person that launches the pontoon in the spring and takes it out then in the fall. Even then most people set the pontoons down on blocks. The bunk trailers are designed for over-the-road use and the others are mainly short term use. Shoreland'r and the company that used to be Spartan (can't remember the name, but it starts with a T) both make a real good bunk at a reasonable price.
