Reels

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy a new reel before I head up north at the end of the week, I want to try something new other then Abu so I am looking at the Corvalus and also the Calcutta?

Question...Calcutta is in the price range but am I going to notice THAT big of a difference between the 2?

Also, I am ordering online, which model of these should I get for casting small to medium sized bucktails primarily?

Thanks

MuskyBrain, I started using the Calcutta TE300 a couple of years ago and I have had awsome luck with them, and I really like having the bigger button for relaesing the reel compared to the Abu. After a long day of burning bucktails you are still be able to use you thumb smirk.gif I used them guiding so they seen alot of use and never gave me any trouble and still super smooth. Also the Calcutta has a little different brake sytem that can be easily "turned on and off" within a matter of seconds wich is really nice if you are fishing with someone that isn't used to baitcasters.

I think Calcuttas are great reels, but you can get just as good of reels if not better at a lower price. Check out the Tica Caiman or Okuma Induron, Excellent reels and you can get either under a $100.

Stay away from the Corvalus. Lost of problems with those, just a rebadged Corsair. I was talking to one guy who only uses Shimano stuff and he went through 4 Corvalus reels in a week. Not durable.

The Abu Morrum is also an excellent reel, but in the upper price scale. Check out hsolist for the two reels mentioned above, excellent quality.

Shimano is upgrading the Calcutta so the "older" models should come down while supplies last.

I don't like the little metal spool release button on the Abu's either. That is why I buy only ones with Thumbars.
