Rogue Hunter
First-off, thanks for all the input, especially on the rod. Having an idea of what power/action works best in various situations was most helpful. I did, however, go with a tried and true length, strenght, and action. The rod: a St Croix Premium 6'6" medium-lite, fast action. After handling both a medium-lite and a medium, the former was closer to my old rod. The rapalas that I throw are not so heavy as to overload the rod. And, I'm not beyond buying a medium later on.The reel: a Pfluger model 6725, 10 bearings, 7.7 oz.. After playing with a lot of reels at the store, I found the Pfluger to not only have a very smooth action, but it didn't wobble when cranked fast, unlike other reels. It's not a large reel, but for most situations, I feel it will perform just fine. And, if I happen to break it while landing that 12-15lb walleye, THEN ALL THE BETTER STORY TO TELL!! LOLBought both units at Scheels as they were $5 cheaper on the St. Croix, and the salesperson loaded the reel with line...no charge! Scheels was the only place that made that offer.Though I don't do a lot of posting, I do enjoy reading all the posts on this board...just a wealth of knowledge that is freely shared. It's very much appriciated.Rogue Hunter
SteveWilson
Nice choice for a combo. My first was the same rod (6'6", ML, two piece) but with a Shimano Symetre reel. That combo will work nice for most presentations and a whole slew of crank baits and spinner baits. Having something a bit heavier as a second combo is nice for the heavier jig/pig, spinner, buzzbait, etc. cutting through weeds. I think you'll enjoy your new rig a lot.
