foot pedal for Minn Kota All Terrain trolling motor question.

I just bought a Minn Kota All Terrain bow mount trolling motor, one of the lower end prices. And although it has a manual foot pedal, there are some electrical type connections underneath. Do I have to protect this foot pedal from the elements (rain, moisture) when not in use? Owners manual does not say.

Cal, you shouldn't have to worry about it. Hopefully it is not sitting directly in several inches of water! (raining again)

There use to be a little tin plate cover the pulleys, but they recently must have removed it. It wasn't water tight the way it was.
