Trolling Reel

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a line counting trolling reel. Would like to keep it under a $100. I troll about 3 days each fall. I need a clicker and line counter on the reel. Does anyone have a reel that they have field tested and can recommend?

Hiya,

Check out the Okuma Magdas. I think they run about $60, and I bet if you keep an eye out at Fleet, you can get 'em on sale. They aren't top of the line, but they're more than adequate for occasional use, and you sure can't beat the price. I know some guys that use the 30DXs, but I have a couple 20DXs (smaller size) and they're plenty big (I think anyhow). I used 4 or 5 of them for a couple seasons, and all but one survived. Worth a look anyhow.

Another one that's frankly probably a better reel for about the same $$ is the Bass Pro Gold Cup linecounter. They're $59.99.

Cheers,

RK

I picked up a couple of Daiwa AccuDepth Linecounter reels (AD27LC-W IIRC) last fall to troll cranks for walleye's. The reels are about $50. The reels work well now I have to work on my technique! As for rod I'm using medium weight Shimano Talora downrigger rod's and they're nice too. The larger size AccuDepth's would probably be more appropriate for the larger line diameters used for Muskie fishing.
