Lake Vermilion Guides Ice Fishing

The word was going around that Gary-the-Guide was really having a lot of success ice fishing over on Norwegian Bay. So another Vermilion guide, "Ace" decided to head west and check out the action.

Sure enough he found Gary over by the Corncrib catching and releasing really nice walleyes at a fantastic rate --- sometimes 2 or 3 in less than 5 minutes.

So Ace drills a hole nearby, but after an hour hasn't had a single tap. Meanwhile Gary has caught and released close to another dozen excellent fish.

Ace has never been skunked like this before, so he sheepishly walked over and asked Gary "What's working for you, man?"

As Gary lands another fish, he looks up at Ace and said, "Mummhummmummhummmumnmunhumm."

"What did you say?"

"Mummhummmummhummmumnmunhumm," Gary repeated.

"Gary, do you have a speech impediment? I can't understand a darn word yer saying!"

Gary pointed his finger up, indicating to wait a minute. He pulled up another nice walleye, dropped his line back in the water, and almost immediately had another strike.

"OK, dammit, either tell me now or else," said the now frustrated Ace.

As Gary removed the fish from the hook, he looked at the agitated Ace standing beside him. He put his rod down and took a large wad of something out of his mouth.

"You have the keep the crawlers warm," he answered.
