Upgrade from Lowrance x51 to x67c or get flasher ?

This is my first season ice fishing with my own stuff. For budgetary reasons I mounted my X51/skimmer transducer so as to use out on the ice. Not very impressive results. I can see bottom and my lure (barely) when in flasher mode but the normal digital readout showing depth jumps around or just stays at zero. Also, the screen reacts very slowly to adjustments. My questions are:

1) Is the Lowrance skimmer transducer functionally identical to their "bullet" transducer ?

2) Does the x51 not have the computer power to deal with the hard ceiling reflections(and thus the problem with the depth readout) ?

3) Does the x67c cure the slow reacting screen (compared to the x51) ?

4) Can I use my existing skimmer transducer with an x67c ?

5) How does the x67c compare to the real flashers ?

I really didn't want to buy anything more but am thinking of just the x67c head unit itself if you can buy them that way. Thanks for any input.
