Where to get smelt?

Hey I know you can get the little farts at any seafood store, but what about the big guys for northern?

If you have a Cash Wise Foods grocery store near ya go there.. You might have to order them but they set you up real good with a fair price.

Cooter...Lake Superior! No, no, just kidding! I got some pretty good sized Smelt at the Asian food market.

There are some other weird looking fish/minnow looking things that look like they might work also?

I usually go with the big suckers and/or the big Golden Shiners when I fish pike in the winter, which is seldom, maybe a tip up 3-4 times a winter in conjunction with fishing panfish.

Any that turn up dead for whatever reason, get fished near, or on the bottom. Got my biggest pike on a dead sucker on the bottom. Tried the Smelt a couple of times and did'nt do much? Probably the fisherman, not the bait!
