Looking at buying a new deadstick rod from Thorne bros. and a new reel. Any comments on thier deadstick rod and what is a good reel for the rod? Looking for a good unit.

Thats up to you to decide. Get the rod then grab some reels and start trying them out on it. Its more what you like than anything. Just make sure it balances out and the reel isnt so big that you get line slapping on the 1st eye. I would say anything from a Shimano 750 size down should be fine. If ya get to the ice show check out JR,s Tackles new reels they are super smooth. Ill be picking up a few.

Only comment I can say about the TB Dead Stick is this,"you got to have one in your arsenal!". After years of just sitting a rod on a bucket and watching a bobber- the deadstick won me over the first time I set the hook on a nice size Mille Lac's walleye!

The rod is designed so the tip of the rod is lighter so you can see the movement of the bait. Once a fish inhauls the lure/minnow, the tip will start to bend- though the fish SHOULDN'T know what is happening.

When you set the hook, you have some serious backbone on the rod to muscle in sizable fish.

Gotta have one!
