what color is the oil?.

if it is dark, chances are good it is just goo that has leaked out of the muffler, as the gas passes through the carb over a period of time.

if it is clearer or light brown it could be gear lube.

i was thinking that, i've never had the strikemaster apart, just my jiffy. my strikemaster has seen less than one full year.....and it leaks goo out the muffler when i leave the vent closed and the muffler faceing down..

I don't think theres any oil in the gear case either.

If the oil was black it probably came from the muffler. You could also have a leaking gas cap, loose gas line or bad inlet valve. The gas that dripped on the floor would evaporate and leave the oil behind.
