Blue Mesa Macks

Recommended Posts

I've been fishing Big Blue for a number of years now for bow's and browns in the Iola basin. I'd like to fish for the Macks this year and need advice on where to fish and what bait/jigs to use -- Also -- what tips/advice can you give on tactics to increase my chances for these lakers.
THNX to all who respond.

There are macs through out the lake. If you can find 50 to 80 feet of water you should get some action. I've caught macs from the Iola Basin to the soap creek arm so they are spread out, but since they have so much food to choose from they can be picky a typical day is around 6 fish although the chance of a 10+ pounder is greater at Blue than most lakes. The typical white or green tube jig with cut bait works, spoons can also be a hot ticket.

Hey thanks Gilles... I'm looking foward to my trip to Blue in mid-february. I'm going to try my luck with those sucker tipped white tubes. It sure is nice sharing information with other ice-fishermen as I've been a fanatic for a long time.
