Bluegills on the Chain during Ice

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was interested in knowing where people have found bluegills on Channel Lake and Catherine Lake during the ice. My son and I are planning on doing some ice fishing on the Chain this year with an emphasis on panfish. We may even fish one of the tournaments in January.

Thanks

Thanks Dances. I know of the area you speak of. I'll try it out for some gills this winter. I'm gonna need a little more ice and cold weather to get my body out there. Been fishing at the Com Ed plant in Waukegan till then!

Take care and spread the word about our forum. I'm hoping we can get this to be as active and as good a source of current fishing information as the various forums in Minnesota.

See you on the ice.

The south end of Channel Lake is usually a good place to start for gills. You can park at McDermit's bar ($5) and just look for the crowd. I was out there last Saturday. We caught plenty of small gills, we just couldn't find the bigger ones that I know this area holds. The ice last weekend was 3 to 3 1/2 inches. I'm sure with this warmer weather we've had this week it has deteriorated some. Hope this helps. GLGF!
