Jim Kusuda
Before this winter started, I met with my buddy Duffy Kopf and we decided to deploy a Nebulus Emergency Flotation Device. Duffy is a representative of the company and was instrumental in getting me a unit for my ATV. We have a city ordinance requiring inspected flotation for snowmobiles and ATV’s used on the frozen lakes, so there is a market for replacing solid flotation with these compact units. We popped one off at fishing club, and later deployed one at D+S Bait for my bluegill seminar. There are four clasps that mount the Velcro sealed cover and a large seat belt sized strap with a sturdy buckle which attaches the inflated unit to a solid portion of the vehicle frame. I attach two clasps to the rear of the front rack with the Nebulus riding on the front fender, leaving the rack open. The large strap is looped and buckled around the steering stem, under the handlebar mount. A white reflector strip faces forward and the pull handle to deploy the unit hangs out to the left. When the yellow handle it pulled, the two CO2 cylinders split open the Velcro on the cover and the Nebulus fills with gas. It is tethered to the ATV with the large buckle and strap, so it will not sink to the bottom. It has 1000 pounds of buoyancy which will support people along with a vehicle. After use it can be deflated and sent in to be re-charged and packed to be used multiple times. It takes me less than a half a minute to put the Nebulus on my machine before going out on the ice. I like that it can be removed to initiate a rescue in an emergency situation. It is on my machine when I am not required to, I hope that I will remember to put it on all of the time. Jim Kusuda
My understanding is that Dave Genz has one too. I will bring a demo unit to deploy at Ice Team University. They will be giving away a new unit there also. Here is my Madison bro Joe Okada "Madeyes" video:
Tony Mariotti
I hope to never "need" one, but every atv and sled should be equipped with one! Awesome idea!
Jim Kusuda
Here is a pic that I got from the Nebulus HSOforum. Winter doesn't last forever so we have to remember to be safe as conditions change.
