yesterdays crappie fishing experience

I was out with a buddy yesterday and he said that he knew a lake that they were catching 13 and 14 inch crappies and that he was catching them on shiners. At first I thought he was full of it because i personally never used a minnow that big to catch crappies. I thought I could either use larvae or crappie minnows and catch the same big crappies. I was wrong I tried everything in my tackle box to no avail. Then when I switched to just a larger hook and shiner minnow under a bobber than i started catching them. The only thing that I caught on the smaller bait profiles was small fish. I learned my lesson today that bigger baits can catch bigger fish

yep---when fishing for crappies I always use fat head minnows

It all depends on conditions and lake forage, match the hatch catch fish!

I caught a dozen crappies on shiners this year in one night was crazy

And yet today I caught a 13" crappie on a small sunnie jig and eurolarve. Guess you just never know.

I fished a tourney last weekend on minnewaska caught all my crappies on small mooska tipped with waxies ended up with big fish and sixth place had to do it solo partner never showed up was fun tho.
