Look on the positive side. We just got rid of all the insulating snow. Some cold weather will drive down high quality ice BEFORE thanksgiving.

Yeah, as far as I could tell, most of the water on the ice was from melting snow, not thinning ice. It'll freeze up very quickly, and over the next week there'll be nothing but progress, on the ice-making front, anyways.

We had 4 inches on a small metro lake in the twin cities on Friday, Sunday 2 guys went in but they got them out ok. Should be good on smaller lakes by this weekend. Bigger lakes still have open water.

We have 5-7" on the lake Im fishing with no snow on top. making for a very easy pull out

Looks cold to me for the next week. By that time we should have more ice. No snow cover!!! Fishing in a aquarium!!!!

I really don't think the "weather guessers" can accurately forecast more than 24-48 hours. Further out than that is a big guess.

Northlander, can I ask what lake you are fishing? Have you heard the thickness on Caribou? I was thinking that would be safe to walk on this weekend.
