The New Ion Augers Are Out!

I have to start by saying I'm 100% happy with my Ion. I just wonder what will happen to dependability with the new 10 drill on it. That's a ton of torque but maybe the shaver blades make it work easier on the gears.

Saw the big C store has the 10 inch set up available already. Yeah, will wait for one of you two to try it out first. The initial units were geared for a 6 or an 8, and would be leery of adding two more inches. Sure would be nice going back to a 10 though........

Push button, did you happen to see a price on just the 10 inch drill? It's a permanent house toy for me already so less holes isn't a big deal to me, but I wish it would have been a 9 inch. As far as the reverse, I always have a drill in my house and slush copter looks a lot cleaner than all the water an auger raises coming up out of the hole. I did ask today if we could wire the reverse switch into an older one and the the guy wasn't sure(the tech guys were at lunch). I'm sure that 10 inch is going to a battery eater, just so it's not a gear eater also.

This is the only thing I've seen so far that I'm exited about for this winter! It's nice to see a company give us what we ask for! Even if I can only get 10, 10" holes I don't care I just need 5 for the wheel house and I can switch back to my 8" for the times I'm in a portable. I have the first year ION and actually like my power switch better so how hard would it be to hack an old one to run in reverse? No reason to buy the new one just to get reverse and it's out of warranty any way.

Is the 10" only sold as an accessory or can you buy the ION with a 10" bit?
They boxed the 6" separately last year, so I suspect they'll do the same thing with the 10" bit. If I were ION, I would sell the powerhead by itself and sell each auger size individually.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
