Loose Screw in Boat Seat

hooksetter

Question

My Alumacraft driver position boat seat back has one loose screw in a support bracket that is causing the back to sag. The screw does not come all of the way out but won't go back in either. I don't believe the wood is rotted since the boat is always stored indoors. I'm guessing the screw insert needs to be replaced.

Anyone have an idea how to do this without ripping the whole seat apart?

A machine screw would go into a Tnut.

The teeth on the nut lost it bite and are probably just spinning against the plywood.

Try pushing the nut against/into the plywood as you have some tighten the screw.

If your lucky thats enough to get it to tighten. Otherwise you remove the trim around the seat back, pull staples on the seat cover, If you go that far you might as replace the plywood as that is prone to rot out.
