stellarfisher
Hello All,Didn't know where else to ask, but the last couple of times that I had my boat out the outboard (2002 Mercury 115 4-stroke) has seemed to hiccup or cut out at higher rpm. After the first time, I took it home and replaced the spark plugs. That didn't work. Out today again and same problem. The motor starts and idles fine, never not started on first turn of the key. It cuts out every time I push it about 3000-4000 rpm. Sometimes it just does it once then its ok for a few seconds and does it again. Other times it will continue to cut out. The motor never shuts down just seems to quit for a second then the rpms go back up.Any information or comments would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!-Adam
Fowlmouth
When was the last time you cleaned or replaced the fuel filter and screen?
trumy
I would look to see if it could be a electrical issue after checking fuel system as stated above as these are the two things that are needed for your motor to run properly
jentz
Merc has had problems with their powerpacks for years,They never upgraded them.Probably because of the stock they have on hand.Thats the normal starting symptom of powerpack failor.A Merc shop will replace it with the standard one.CDI makes them and they are made and upgraded knowing the OM problem. If you replace it get a aftermarket CDI brand.
