Reel and rods?

What reels and rods are people using for carp fishing. Thinking about buying a shimano 2500 or 400 reel. Leaning towards the 2500 because of smaller size. Any input would be great. Thanks.

For any big bottom-feeder, I recommend using a medium-heavy rod (especially the Ugly Stik catfish pole in either spinning or baitcasting) paired with a Zebco 808 Pro spincasting reel with 30 pound mono if you're not used to baitcasters (there's a spinning combo sold if you like spinning reels). It helped me wrestle in a big 21 incher from the Coon Rapids dam. I'm surprised it didn't even fall off!

If I were going to use it as a setup-and-wait type fishing style, I'd go for something with the baitfeeder option. Basically, it just allows the fish to swim with the bait for a bit before you set the hook.

Other than that, I don't think the rod matters much. Med to MedHeavy would be fine. Light rods work too. I've caught carp >30in with a 6wt flyrod.
