9-22-02 Tournament of Champions WED EVE BASS

The tournament was Sunday the 22nd On the Main 4 lakes of the Alexandria Chain. It was a cold blustery miserable day to be on the water. We fished from 10:00- 6:00 with an 8 fish limit.

1st Place Cory Putnam and Kent Scheele from Northeast Outfitter in Alexandria came in with a sack of elephants for the Le Dieu Chain. They brought 8 fish to the scale that weighed in at 25.22 lbs with big bass also at 5.33lbs.

2nd Place Jeremey Fuller and Shawn Olson of Alex came in with 23.85 lbs on 8. 99 percent of the time I would have said this is your winning bag that's an awesome weight for here. They also had a 5.21lb bass for there big one.

Third Place went to Bucky Solumn and Dave Miller of Alex they weighed in at 18.52 lbs none the less some dandy's!

Fourth Place went to Tom Wilkins and Kevin Tvirid with yet another 18.00lb bag of fish.

5th place Rob Gooden and Dana Frese from Christophersons Bait with 8 fish for 17.88lbs.

There was half dozen more boats in with 16-17 lbs of fish.

All in all some beatiful for the chain of lakes thats great to see. I don't know if it was because these fish are feeding more with fall or if it was just an exceptional day for fishing. I beleive the chain is getting better with more people practicing catch and release.

This was just the end of the year deal with about 15 boats and very little money involded but yet some of the best competitiom state wide.

There was another tournament on the chain in the middle of August called the Tripple Three with some more great weights.

1st place Matt Gilberstson and Ryan Ricketts with 8 fish that went 25.45 lbs and second place was Dayton and Duane Tvirdik with 22.89lbs.

Bigger weights are coming around on the chain.

Take care and great fishing thought you guys might like to hear about some good weights on the chain that usually yeilds smaller bags.

Hey Adam., its been a while since I have heard from you. I,m spending every spare minute I got out in the boat right now, smallies, walleyes bucketmouths, muskies, bowhunting, and duck hunting. There isn't enough time in the day to do it all. Most years I havent missed very many days of bowhunting, well I've only made it out twice.

I suppose you have been keeping your self busy?

I have lived on the Chain and fished it my whole life. The fishing seems to get better and better every year. This year I caught more five pound fish on the chain than any other lake I fish regularly. In the local tournaments the bags seem to be getting larger every year. I don't know if it is the quality of the fishery or the if the fisherman are getting just that much better. I believe that people fishing tournaments will be seeing more bags of twenty plus pounds on eight fish brought to the scales.

Hey Cory.
Yeah, I've been busy also. I just got back from Arkansas for the BASS Central Open and I have been trying to get out to do a little hunting myself. I'm going bowhunting tomorrow and will pobably do a little grouse hunting as well even though it seems the numbers are down quite a bit. Things will be a little easier for me for a little while until show season starts.
You said it best, there are not nearly enough minutes in the day to take advantage of all the great things to do in the outdoors in the fall. Good luck and if I make it back to the Alex area this fall I'll be sure to stop into the store.

I'm fishing the opens as a pro. Triton boats got me in so I'm working hard not to disappoint.

The first was at the Red River down in Shreveport, LA. Talk about HOT (the weather that is)! I made the top 50 by catching three bass a day at about 7.5 lbs a day. On the last day I only managed to get two small fish and finished 44th.

Next was Lake Ouachita in Hot Springs Arkansas. This time the weather was nice but the fishing was even more dead than the Red. During practice I didn't even catch a fish! The first day there were only 4 limits out of everybody, pros and ams. I caught one fish the first day for 90th and blanked the second day. Overall, I am in 69th just above Ken Cook.

The last is at Sam Rayburn at Jasper Texas. From what everyone has been saying, the fishing should be great, so hopefully I can catch a few fish and qualify for the Tour. Should be a lot of fun, and everyone is so close in the points race, it's anybody's game!
