10' and deeper crank bait rod

Lots of good options. I use Powells and love the Tackle Warehouse custom they made for deep cranking, but they aren't making it anymore. (Yet another out of production rod I have to baby... *sigh*) That having been said, the Endurance 7'5" crankabit rod is the same blank more or less. These rods are glass/graphite composites, which I really, really like.

If it were me though, especially if you're looking to buy something off the shelf locally I'd look hard at the Shimanos. Their crankbait rods are awfully good - and I'm not a big Shimano rod guy generally speaking. You can get the Crucial MH in anything from 7' to 7'11" (I'm partial to long rods for cranking), or get the Compre cranking rod, which is a very very nice rod for @ $100.

I agree with RK ... Powell cranking rods are among the best for the money. I also fish the TW Exclusive Deep Diving Crankbait Rod that is no longer made. Sweet Rod for anything 12-20 ft! Powell 7'5 glass/composite fishes great for deep divers and doubles as an awesome lipless crank rod. You can find Powell's on sale for as low as $110-130 - steal in that price range.

I fish them on a Castaway 8' blank that I wrapped myself. I have it in both mhm and hm. Both rods have a good soft tip for loading and making long casts and have a lot of backbone to set the hooks . The soft tip allows the fish to inhale the bait and not have the hooks pulled away when you set the hook...at least that's what I think. I think I paid around $100 for the blanks, maybe less...

I use a 7'6" med hvy mod fast Crucial with the TC4 construction.

Handles DT16s and 6XDs with ease.

Works for DT20s for the few lakes I use them on.

How is it for DT10's? I would like to find one of those with the cork handles

It works, but I throw dt10s on a 7' med crucual TC4 most of the time.

I will use the 7'6" mh if I am pulling the dt10 through weed clumps, longer rod helps rip it better.

The dt10 is kind of an in between bait.

I throw Strike King Series 4 cranks on the 7' medium, bait has a wider wobble and runs 7 to 10 feet, it seems to pull more than a dt10. By no means do I feel underpowered with a medium power rod with either bait.

Maybe a longer rod in medium would feel different.

Since you are looking for a rod to throw dt16s, 6xds and other deep cranks I would go with a 7'6" med hvy mod or mod fast compre or crucial.

The Crucial is a lighter weight rod which will be nice if you throw a dt16 for more than a couple hours.
