If I buy to day when is my license effective?

I seem to recall that there used to be a law that if you bought a license during the season you have to wait a certain time before it is effective. I did my bowhunting in Wisconsin this year, but am contemplating a last minute gun license to take my 6 year old out in the blind this weekend. I can't find anything in the regs about how long before the license becomes effective. Did that law change or something?
