Al Dente Noodle Rod

I am looking at getting a new noodle rod. I was just curious if anyone has one with the "New Fly Guide configuration" This rod will likely only be used a few trips a year so I'm not sure if I want to get the recoil guides. I have a TB Perch SH and know how nice Recoil guides are, but considering this isn't a feel rod I don't know if they are needed.

If you fish outside a lot where wind is a factor. I can personally say they the recoils are very resistant to freezing up!

Fish outside? Get Recoils. Fish indoors / in a house, you can get the cheaper version.

You won't be losing much by going with the fly rod guides. Last year I had a pretty lengthy conversation with Adam Bricker before he built my rod. He uses fly guides for most of his light action ice rods and ultimately that's what we went with. They are no heavier than the Recoil guides but are way more economical. They also have a much wider opening than the traditional alconite guides similar to the Recs. The one advantage I can think of with the Recoils is that they're almost indestructible. It's actually about time the guys around here started using these. Is it really necessary to have a bullet proof guide on a noodle rod?

What Bricker is doing isnt new, ive been using lite wire fly guides on my builds for ever ten years. DH started using them on all but the stripper guide on his regular models this year. So unless you want a guide that flex's there is no real advantage to the REC Recoil guides anymore.
