Do you attach your portable modification?

Just bought a new Otter Cabin Pro. I framed the inside of my last portable, which worked awesome. I almost always pull behind ATV or snowmobile.

But, on a trip to LOW last wintEr I cracked my sled nearly in half. Granted it was -30 in the morning and we pulled the sleds by snowmobile 25 miles. It looks like it started where I mounted the homemade hyrax. Or at the top right next to where the frame to my bench seat was mounted (I had it on hinges so I could get to stuff in the sled).

So, now I'm leary of putting any unnecessary holes on the sled other than for hyrax.

Do you attach your mod frame with bolts? Or let it float?

I wished the manufacturers would put a rim around the inside of the sled to help with mods. The you could just flex a piece of plywood in the groove to hold the entire frame in place.

I bolted 2x2's to the top edge using carriage bolts then the cross pieces (2x2's) using my kreg pocket hole jig. Once I had the top perimeter frame done, I made sections inside using 2x2's and the kreg jig again. For the dividers I used 1/4" plywood and I do not have it go all the way to the floor so the floor can flex.

Basically the whole mod is mounted using only 4 carriage bolts (one in each corner).

I have an otter lodge. No issues so far. I havent towed it the distances you have or at high speeds since I pull with an ATV, but it is holding up fine.

I've got quite a few bolts through my Otter sled to secure aluminum angle to the sled.

No issues other than a ripped out transom that was caused by hooking 3 sleds together. I've since added aluminum plate to the design. Lots and lots of hard miles behind machines in the cold with no issues. The Otter sled is really tough, great choice for modding a pull behind fish house.
