Which Go Pro?

I know there are a few members on this site with Go Pro cameras, and wanted some advice.

We're going to get a Go Pro camera for my fiance's dad, for an upcoming week long whitewater rafting trip in Utah, with the idea of trying to be able to get a boat's-eye view of some of the rapids we run.

Question 1:

Given that Hero3s are out, should I bother looking at previous models? The GoPro HSOforum doesn't seem to sell them anymore (unless I'm missing them somewhere).

Question 2:

The specs for the various Hero3s are plain, but from those of you who have them, are you happy with whatever model you purchased? Is the silver edition worth the +$100 over the white? Is the black worth the +$100 over the silver?

Question 3:

Any clue what kind of mounting accessories I might want? I'm not familiar with rafts at all, my knowledge is that they are blue, inflatable, and have some kind of home-made frame.

Sweet little camera! I finally checked one out yesterday at Joe's (nice store..never been in there before) $300 too much to spend? I know one thing..$25 for a box of .357 is!
