Flippin Reel

jac714

Question

I am in the process of buying a flippin stick and need some advise on the reel, I have decided on a brand and model but I am a little confused about what gear ratio is the best, I am thinking low, 5.3:1 to make it easy to horse a fish out of heavy cover and such.

What do other people use on a flippin setup?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

horsing heavy fish out of close heavy cover is more arm strength than gear ratio (i think)....

I went with a 7.0.1 ratio for my flipping stick because I use it equally as much as a deep jig rod. So that extra line pick up is essential for me to keep fish hooked.

Flipping/pitching is almost a technique where gear ratio is not to important. It depends on what else you're going to use said set-up for..
