Fly reel ice combos

I want to purchase one of these for this springs late ice season. I have found a couple that I like. Both rods say they can be switched from right handed to left handed. I have looked and cannot figure out how to do it. It seams that you are supose to turn the reel backwards to make it left handed. But that would mean you would be reeling against the drag and there would be no drag going in reverse just free spool. I want to make sure I can use it the way its intended before I purchase one. If you have any recomendations I would like to hear them. I would like to spend less than $40 on the combo if possible.

Remove the bearing turn it around and its done.

It should be pretty easy to flip the reels, they are reversible. I just purchased a new 3wt fly rod and an Okuma SLV 2/3 that I will be putting on my St. Croix Legend. I'm hoping to get a few fish on it this weekend!

Thats what I thought but you cannot flip the spool because the housing for the spool is solid on the right side of the reel. Flipping the reel backwords would eliminate the drag system because everything would be reversed. Reeling in you would reel against the drag and back reel would always be free spool.

Again remove the bearing reverse it and reinstall. Rotation is reversed. Left hand is right or visa versa. Lots of talk about this on this and other forums.

That's why you have to flip the 1-way bearing in the spool. This should give you the general idea....

Might be a few minor differences based on reel model, but essentially it is the same for all inline 1:1 reels.

I just grabbed a 13 fishing fly style reel and switched it to right hand crank, do I need to switch a bearing?

There's no click either way and drag seems pretty minimal just a bushing that seems to regulate the reel both ways at an even tension in both directions
