Camera SD card

Our camera has fried it's 3rd battery in 6 months so it's time for a new camera. Does anyone know if a new camera would be able to read the SD card from the old camera?

Do different brands format the cards differently?

From my experience, each camera will create it's own folder.

IE I use my Canon SD card in my cheap 60.00 camera and it creates a folder on the card separating the data.

A card is a card (assuming electrical problems haven 't corrupted your current one). You'll have to reformat the existing card in your new camera, but there won't be a problem. If you're upgrading to a body that 's significantly faster, and with more pixels, you might want to consider upgrading to a UDMA compliant card and one with greater storage. Such a card will better keep pace with faster shooting and larger file sizes.
