Duck-o-holic
Just wondering what everybody's been seeing for ducks, and/or broods lately? What breeds are you seeing, and in what areas??I'm seeing the usual mallard, teal, and wood ducks around the Willmar area... and even one slough with a lot of ruddy ducks in it. It's been kind of nice seeing the drakes in full plumage earlier in the spring.I've also been seeing a lot of geese, and many have had great hatches!Duck-o-holic
Guest
Lots of ducks around Hutchinson area and the geese are thicker than ever. It should be a great year, especially since we can hunt over water for early goose this year!!!
Lunker
Living here in the cities I've seen more duck and geese broods than ever before while fishing. BLACKJACK
Duck, in the Sunburg/Norway Lake are, been seeing the same as you, lots of wood duck and teal broods, with a few mallards here and there. Also seeing a few merganser broods. Its neat watching them dive for food rather than puddling along. Getting real dry around here, not much water running into the ponds and they're getting scummy looking, and the crops are started to show stress. Tour. Pro 175
The number of geese in the Little Falls area is up. I observed lots of family units on river S. of Little Falls this spring and summer. The number of ducks seems to be on par with last year. Mallards seem to be the most plentiful, woodies seem to be down a little unless they are tucked into the bank and I'm just not seeing them. I've even saw a pintail brood {neat} thats the first time in the ten years that I've lived up here that I've seen that {on the river}
Duck-o-holic
Drove to St.Cloud today, and saw a lot of geese on my way. A few mallards, and a lot of teal and woodies around Paynesville. The geese were all over. Wish I'd have seen a flock of Pintails!! Duck-o-holic PS-- They were just getting all of the new waterfowl supplies put out tonight at Gander Mountain!!! Tour. Pro 175
I just wish Gander Mountain would have their 50% off sale again this fall. I made a haul on their big foot decoys last year {quite a savings}!

big_fish_guy
Well, I called the farmer up in canada where we hunt and he said the duck numbers are way up this year. They had a lot of water in the spring and that made for good nesting. All the potholes were filled. Excited about going up this year for once. They have been realy low on water the past few years.pintail nbrs up, which is a good thing.
Duck-o-holic
Tom,That sounds like in interesting idea. I know that some were showing interest in something like that last year.
