Humminbird 587 ci for ice fishing

I received a Humminbird 587 ci as a gift this summer for my boat. It does have an ice fishing mode and was just wondering if anyone uses this model out on the ice. I have a vexilar (older FL8) and was wondering if I would be bettter off using the HB. The GPS would be nice but I also have a handheld unit that I now use. A little spendy to convert to hard water fishing for the case and an ice transducer, so just wondering if anyone has used the HB 587 on the ice and if so, how do you like it.

plenty of info on here already regarding this topic but yes, yes, yes! dont know how it would compare to FL8 as i have no knowledge of that item...check river HSOforum for carrypack & ice duer....i did for bout 120 last year

With a handheld GPS already and an FL8, I'd just stick with that and leave the bird on the boat. That's just my opinion though. I don't even leave my Bird in the cold in the winter (comes in the house) but I'm anal like that.

Yes, I have seen topics on the HB 798 but none on the 587. Bartman, probably correct, leave the bird on the boat and continue going with what I have . Thanks for the quick replies
