My son is looking to buy his/our first sled. There are many unknowns it seems. He wants to pay around $1000 and wants something dependable. Maybe those two things don't go together, but what should he look for/not look for?? Certain brands, models, years, injected, carbed??? Thanks guys!!

I would look at maybe a Polaris Indy 500 if you are wanting something liquid cooled with decent power. If you want something fan cooled maybe an Arctic Cat Jag 440. Can find these sleds for around a 1000 with relatively low miles and in good shape. Both would be very reliabe and have been time tested.

My friend lives in the Brainerd area and has a nice artic cat jag well taken care of. I wish he would keep it but he has enough toys. I tried to reach him via text but no luck. I think it's a 440 fan we'll post something soon as I contact him. His name is CrappieAttitude on here.

It is a 1989 Arctic Cat Cougar. 500 cc. Got it from my mother in law who bought it new. There are 4000 miles on it driven by her. Always garage kept and covered. Seat and plastic is perfect. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.
