bigred1974
My brother did this to a mid 60's camper. Gutted the interior, pulled the body off of it, stripped the floor, cut up and built the frame, built the axles, put the body back on it with a new floor, tongue and groove cedar through out. Save your money and buy a ice castle or something. He has over 4 grand in materials, and hundreds of hours of time into it. It looks cool as hell but in my opinion, not worth doing (He said never again)

Boar
I use a camper an was wondering what it would take to convert the existing axel into a drop down, i know others have done this also.
hooked79
that can also be done but the frame isnt set up to sit on the ice but i am shure it wont take much to get it there the drop axel part is gonna be the tuff part i wanna do it with out having a big box in the middle of the floor the brother in law uses a camper and has done nothing but puit catch covers in it and uses 5 gallon buckets to take care of the gap between the ice and floor and uses a auger extension it works but he has to have a few small fans pushing heat down to keep the holes from frezzing up but it is a cheap way to get out on the ice and sleep ice castles are not cheap but i love mine and dont regret buying it but you need to use it yr round to understnd why you just payed that much
Boar
rIGHT i GOT A GRAND IN MY CAMPER WITH CONVERTING IT AN ALL, isulated the floor, an took out a few cabinets an such built bunks ect, but I use ten inch PVC pipe an it gose straight to the ice, one thing that helps with hole freeze up is to insert the pvs right into the slush built up after drilling a hole, this creates a seal an it just a tap or knock to lossen it when done fishing. I bank mine with 1 inch thick card board an use a snow pusher to bank snow, dinbt get a whole lot of hole freeze up, just dont like the dead ir spacein the pipe. I dont lose many fish but slipped a disk reaching down to grab a fish.

choppermn27
My perm is a camper stripped down and rebuilt into a 6x8.I put smaller wheels on it and will use sleeves. To convert it would be too expensive and too much work. What I've seen some do is unbolt the axle and drop it down manually.Using a camper as a base limits where you can put the holes also so unless you get a free camper it's not worth the time and money.I used insulated doors for front and back and insulated garage panels for sides and top.The floor is 3/4 plywood with a thin layer of fiber foil insulation underneath. The nice thing is that it's light and warm even though it's small.
