RUGER MINI 30

Recommended Posts

Does anyone hunt with the Ruger Mini 30 .308 for deer? If so, what ammo, scope, accessories do you use?

I want to purchase on before next opener.

Unfortunately, you are going to be very hard pressed to find a mini thirty in .308. Mainly because the Mini-30 is chambered in 7.62x39 (Same as an AK47). (they did make a few in .308 for testing (Ruger XGI), but never went into full scale production. May be a few out there though)

(.308 is similar to 7.62x51 Nato) Not interchangeable in any way.

With all that said, the 7.62x39 should be a capable round out to a certain distance.

Yes I shoot one in the 7.62x39 for deer with the standard front blade and rear peep. I normally keep it in the truck for a spare just incase someone has gun problems. As far as ammo look for some quality soft points. You can find alot of cheap ammo and a lot of full metal jackets but the quality isn't their. Just a fyi full metal jackets are also illegal to deer hunt with.
