hi after some back work i might be able to spear again. i bought a 4x8 spear house canvas with wood ends. the canvas is a dark brown in the sun you can see it is lighter no bright spots of sun but not as dark as a black one. will this still work if not could i spray paint the canvass black would that work. i didnt spend much on it but hope to leave it on the lake i dont want to mess with putting up towels or tarps and clamping them. thanks for the help

It will work just fine. People get too hung up on having their house pitch black. What's more important is not moving fast above the hole and not making any floor vibrations that spook the fish. The darker it is, the more movement you can get away with and the easier it is too see down the hole, but one of the biggest fish I have ever speared came when I had the door open... I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree. My old Eskimo traveler has paper thin canvas that is translucent and light leaks in around the window covers. Some of the biggest pike I ever speared came out of that shanty. Only issue I had was not being able to see well on sunny days. My permanent shack walls and ceiling are bead board insulation white.
