Don't give up! Or Give up and save yourself. ;-) LOL

This is not just fishing, it's MUSKIE Fishing. They are not in every weedbed or behind every rock. They are the least abundant species in any given lake, they are the top of the food chain and can/do eat everything smaller than them.

Think about those giant snakes that eat a deer or somthing once a week. This BIG fish go out and look for a meal that will fill them up. Then they won't/don't eat for 8, 12, 24 or 36 hours depending on the water temp and the size of the meal. You have to be in the right spot at the right time and do the right thing -- then you will catch your first fish. Learning where to do what and how to do it, is what this is all about.

I have been fishing Muskies for 20 years, I have caught a bunch and some very BIG. I still will go out and get SKUNKED on many days. This year I have only spent a couple hours actually targeting Muskies, I have not even seen one. Time on the water is the key. It will teach you what you need to know, Or you will just get lucky and be in the right place at the right time. Either way if you put in the time, you will start catching fish.

Good luck!
Steve

Muskie fishing is crazy. I have gone out three times this year with one particular guy. All three times I have caught a muskie. 36", 40", 43"- He has not had a follow. Last year he did the same to me. Just put in the casts and vary your retrieves. Sooner or later the fight will be on.

Half2fish- They all said it best- But, there are times that you must adjust.

It could be boat control, presentation, lure type, fast, erratic, wind change, etc....

My best advice is to fish windblown points and shorelines for starters. Those fish will be shallow and you will have a shot.

Start w/ easy baits like a Top Raider, bucktail/spinnerbiat, Crane bait, Grandma, etc...

Lastly, if you are new to muskie fishing, get the hot spots map. Learn the lake and hit those areas!

Good Luck!
