Spinner1
Muskie water is scarce in my part of Iowa. I have never tackled a new lake anything like this and need some advice. The lake is a reservoir created by damming a few creeks that ran through deep ravines. The result is a very clear 170 acre lake that is 16 years old. 75% of it is very deep at 50'+. The remaining has steep shorelines. Most of the submerged tree tops are just a foot or less below the surface. The fishable water is a mine field and I use a trolling motor. The lake is notoriously pretty tough but gives up mid 40s muskie. Would you attack the wood? I can fish wood in 12'-40' deep water. I know the walleye and crappie anglers have far better success at night. But I'd lose $100 an hour worth of cranks. Just found the place and was able to drag bucktails over the wood. As an alternative there is also some 20 foot water with good weeds and no wood, but it is scarce. And it gets pounded. Presumably because it's less hassle. I have to give this lake a shot if I want to muskie fish. Just don't know if muskie like wood so I lack confidence.
delmuts
spinner . what lake are you talking about ? ( brushy ?) i'm no expert , but from what i have been reading on here and in articles the fish can and will use wood, suspend, relate to weeds, or any other type of structure that may hold bait fish. hopefully the experts will give you more details. del
Spinner1
DelIt's name was recently changed to McMaster Lake. It is in a preserve called Snake Den Hollow near Victoria, Illinois. I have fished enough MN water to know you guys would likely pass it by. But it can give up nice fish for a very small lake.
