Hey Guys,

My uncle is having some teribble backlash problems with this reel...I told him it could be the basics (using the thumb correctly, tightning your drag/spool) but he tells me he keeps getting backlashevery cast. I don't know anything about this reel and was wondering if any of you do?

Also does anyone know what the spin dial on the left side of the reel is for? Thanks...

I think the 16N is the easiest to cast out of the Trinidad line from the 12-16 models. I would adjust the spool tension to several settings to see if it helps. I'm also a believer that the type of line used on the Trinidad makes a big difference. A guide suggested 100 lb. Cortland and that seems to do the trick for me. I've had friends encounter Trinidad problems and changing the line has helped. Also, make sure the line is packed on the spool very tight. Myself and others I fish with have not experienced many problems casting this reel.

If he is in the metro, I'd tell him stop by Thorne Bros and have Pat take a look at the reel.

The spin dial on the left is for the clicker.

I only will use power pro on my trinidad... tell him to point his rod tip at the baits when retrieving to keep it loading the line evenly and until you get use to the trinidad you have no business using any jerk baits wtd or gliders... blades are all i use mine for but sometimes hard to cast into the wind maybe practice with a crank bait and straight retrieve to help the learning curve i've found that slack in the line during the retrieve and you will have problems

Tighten the spool dial up until you get more use to casting as well, then loosen as you get use to the reel. I have mine almost all the way loose and never pull my thumb off the spool when casting the trinidad has a big spool and once it gets spinning it wont slow down like most other reels i think thats what makes people have issues once you get the hang of this reel you can cast further than a levelwind reel
