Muskies at night???

Recommended Posts

yep..........what he said........

The nice thing is that you can mostly rule out colors for being a huge deciding factor.

Cranks and top water are your tickets.......

Just be carefull, since you can't spot those lures flying through the air on a missed hookset...........

Make sure your boat is well organized. Put away anything you don't need, especially if it has hooks on it! Get the net, pliers, measuring tape (Is this optimistic or what!?) in places where they can be easily grabbed. AND, get yourself a head lamp. It's important to have a light source available and both hands free to deal with the fish, change baits, etc.
By the way, there's NOTHING like the explosion on a top water at night from one of those critters!!!!!!

I'm not a Musky fishermen by any stretch, but I would think they would bite at night, they have bit us at night on more then one occassion! They were either Muskys, or some pretty huge pike!

My son had one grab a ball of weeds he was reeling in on the surface, over by the sail boats in Wayzata bay. Maybe the fish thought it was a muskrat?

On Milles and I believe Sugar lake, I've had them **** near jerk the rod out of my hands, hitting little walleyes I was reeling in just after sundown....I'd say yeah, they bite at night.

My first dozen or so muskies all came after dark. Try finding the hot fish during the day and then go back after dark with top water baits, hawg wabblers, creepers, etc, you will not forget it!

When I was first starting to fish musky a friend took me out one afternoon. We fished till dark and figured it was time to head home. But the fish were on a rampage and we stayed most of the night and were hooked on night musky fishing.

Not to disagree with an earlier post, but color can make a difference at night. Black is often preferred because it casts a more distinct outline, particularly with a bright moon above. Or so I've been told ...

Also, when fishing muskys @ night, it helps to rig a portable light over the side of the boat into the water, like a flashlight or something similar. Bring your lure through the light with each return and watch for the follow. Nothing like seeing the follow in the dark, going into a figure 8 and feeling that THUMP THUMP! --> Raises your motabolizm 200% in two seconds.

Plus, what else can you do on a hot, humid August night? Plan trips around the full moon.
