Giant_Jackpot
I have heard that as a general rule, Mille Lacs is not too hot on opener. Do any of you care to share your experiences? If you have had success there on opener, what type of structure did best for you? I’m not looking for you to give up your hot spots, just a general idea of what works. Thanks. Trailblazin
In general, Yes...The best time for them up there is July/August. I have caught them on opener. Best bait up there is a black bucktail, I like the silver blade. I like the north side and the sand. Concentrate in 2-10 feet. 90% of my fish up there, none less than 40 inches, have come in about 4 feet of water!
Muskie-searcher
Mille Lacs is a very average early season lake. Like the previous post said, mid way through July it really starts to turn on. I have seen a lot of fish during June, but getting them to strike is the key. My best success has come from slow fishing the Lunker City "Fin-S Musky-Pike Minnow, or the Moore's "Rigged Reaper" in 3- 8 of water. Again the North shore does warm up a little faster. If you want to see a lot of fish, use your bucktails. If you want to catch the fish, I would suggest putting the bucktails away for another month, and work the finesse lures.
