Battery location

My dad tried to put his starting battery in his 16 ft sylvan to the bow. He used 6 gauge cables and it would hardly turn over with a fully charged battery. Would 4 gauge be big enough for that 16 ft run of cable?

you want the cables at least as big as the ones that come off the motor. The longer the cable the more resistance you will have but it shouldn’t be that much, if you had to small of cable your wirers should get hot and melt the insulation like a big heater.

Make sure you have a charge on the battery and use a starting battery not a deep cycle. Good luck.
