How high up (if clear on both sides) can you mount your SS/SI on the transon? They say to mount it flush with the bottom, if you have a step or jack plate it's mounted higher. Can one mount it 3-4 inches from the bottom? My biggest worry are the bunks and I can work with it if not but wondering why I can't just mount it higher if its shooting sideways not front to back. I'm not sure how high is too high when cruising but I won't be using it on plane...maybe up to 15 mph I suppose.

I got tons of help on here from how to mount it...just need to know how high some are mounting these, running into any problems, and how fast you can go with it mounted higher (16.5' v-hull fish'n ski aluminum).

Thanks again!

(Fishing for pics as I really won't be able to "test it" before opener and I understand I may need to tweek it but also want to get some use out of it...will be mounted on transducer board so I will be able to re-adjust it)

Mounted anywhere above the bottom plane of your boat hull and I think you are looking at losing readings at about 7-10 miles per hour.

The ones that are mounted higher, typically have a second high speed transducer mounted, either in hull or transom mounted for a depth reading at speed.

Your bunks extend past the end of your boat?

I have a Crestliner 1750 and mine is mounted flush with the bottom of the boat and I get 2D and SI readings wide open, which is 40..

What he said. smile

I mounted mine flush with the bottom of the boat and get readings at WOT. You might need to play with it a bit though because it will throw quite a rooster tail if too low.

Basically, I put it where the high speed xducer used to be, then moved the high speed xducer further to the starboard side.

On a Alumacraft 175.

The transducer needs to be in the water for it to work. I have my SS transducer mounted a couple inches above the bottom of the hull on my boat, which protects it from hitting anything while running. It is in the water and working when I am off plane, it is out of the water and not working when I am on plane. Whatever you do, make sure you have it mounted low enough that it will be in the water!

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
