I was a little dissappointed with this being my first year with a permanent......but taking my daughter and son out made it worth every effort to get it done in time, although I left a lot of room for improvement it turned out good for the time I had.

Thanks for the nice video, Darren. Turned out great.

Adam's quite the fisherman for his age. He's been ice fishing with me now for 3 years. The first year he just sat there with his mom and watched while I fished mostly. He was only 2. Then last year when he was 3 we mostly played with the dog outside the house when we'd go out, and spent like 10 minutes per outing in the actual fish house fishing. Not a lot of fishing, but just enough to get him into it. Didn't want to pressure him or make him think ice fishing was boring. Then this year at age 4 he all of a sudden became just about the most patient fisherman that I've seen. Makes wastewaterguru's ADHD look even more pronounced wink We head out after nap time, get set up around 4:15 or so, and fish until maybe 7:00, and other than eating sandwiches, playing with minnows some, etc. he pretty much fishes the whole time. He's pretty hardcore.

I can't wait til he gets a little bigger, and I'll have him in the boat on the river. I'm thinking when he turns 5.

Bump to the top. The now-5-year-old Adam is at it again. He and I caught and released almost 60 crappies tonight. I outfished him for once. Might have had something to do with his pig-headedness (I think he gets that from me, but if my wife asks don't tell her I admitted it).

At one point after he missed 2 bites in a row and the one looked like it might have taken his minnow, I asked him to check his bait. He told me he had one on....and refused to reel it up and check. 15 minutes later after I opened a 10 fish lead on him, he finally decided he would listen to my advice. He reeled up an empty hook, which I promptly re-baited, and than it was game on again. smile

This is Adam's 4th year ice fishing with me. The first year he just sat there with his mom and watched while I fished mostly (He was only 2).

Now that he's 5 it's almost like fishing with another adult, except that he can't take fish off the hook yet. Tonight there were 3 of us in the shack. Adam caught 26 crappies on his rod, I got 38, and the third guy got 19. He keeps track of all the fish and he outfishes me about 1/2 the time. He even learned how to bait his own hook now. smile
