Shallow lake

Fished a lake the last few years that was great until Feb. Cold, mild light or thick snow lights out in Feb. Found a new lake that has lots of Crappies, and is even shallower than my other lake and am wondering if it will shut off too.

Do I need to downsize? find a small trench of deeper water in the community hole or just pass on the lake till open water and/or first ice-not alot of good alternatives here in the metro. any help would be great.

well those are all possibilities and even lack of oxygen but feb is not really the best time of year to chase crappies too maybe late feb or early march try the lake again. But i know some of the lakes i have fished that are very shallow most of the fish i catch are in 3 f.o.w. or sometimes less. Though most of the time i go back to these lakes the next year it gets a big winterkill unless you have been catching these crappies in the new lake this year id say move around try shallower water but if your going off a DNR report even if its a 2011 report its still a bit of a gamble to fish. Hope it helps
