keeping minows alive

just curious, been reading quite a bit bout this topic last couple of years....is it not more cost effective to just keep the minnows as long as possible as is without any extra $ in setup for $2 minnows? I tried couple of things last year with really no difference either way so i just keep the minnows as long as possible without chaninging anything (cept taking out dead ones) & when their gone thats it and go spend another $2 on bag of minnows. I find it ironic ppl want to spend 10,20,30 to keep a bag of $2 minnows alive. IMO this sport is expensive enuff without going the extra mile to try & save one of the cheapest products involved with it. LOL

You're right, it's probably not cost effective. For me it's the convenience of being able to just grab a quick scoop of bait from the garage vs going to the baitshop all the time. Especially this time of year when I have 1 hr at best between work and sundown. Scored a broken chest freezer this fall. I only have aeration on the bait right now and they have made it 3 weeks. I've looked into pumps/filters and that is where it gets expensive. When the water is under 35 degrees, there isn't much waste in there though. Swap a 5 gal bucket every few days and I'm good to go.

When is the last time you got in and out of a bait store for $2? Factor in gas and most importantly time and for me it's a no brainer.
