Fluorcarbon line

Recommended Posts

I know this has probably been ask at one time or another but entertain me anyways. I was a big C store and found some fluorcarbon line on sale 200yds for 3 bucks. Can I use in for ice fishing or will it have to much memory due to the cold and stiffness of the line?

Spotty,

I have used fluoro for the last few years and it has performed well. It doesn't absorb water like mono so you don't get the frozen line problems. Some of the cheaper fluoro will coil up in the summer as well as the winter, just give the line a good tug to stretch it out as you drop your line for the first time and it should take care of most if not all of the coils.

A fly fishing line stretcher works well, also.

Hope that helps.

been a firm believer in ice flouro since i began sight fishing for crappies. they seemed to see mono better. and once i put on 3 ft of flouro to the end of the line. my catch ratio went way up. also flouro has better abrasion resistance. that doesnt get cut up as much against the ice like mono does

as said already. just give it a nice pull before dropping it down the hole

I always pull 20 or 30 feet of line off a freshly spooled reel and stretch it out at home before I ever go out. As soon as I finish that I take the spool off the reel and run it under hot tap water for a few minutes. This takes the memory of the filler spool out of the line and helps it lay on the reel better.
